Riverside County reports 382 new coronavirus cases and 7 additional deaths on Friday

Riverside County health officials on Friday reported 382 new cases of COVID-19 and 7 additional virus-related deaths. 

There are now 37,011 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the county, and 695 of those have been fatal. 

Riverside County's rate of infection is about 1,537 per 100,000 residents as of Friday. The county currently has a 10% positivity rate, while the state's guidelines advise that each county should strive to have a positivity rate under 8%.

Riverside County, the fourth most-populous county in California, continues to have the second-highest number of cases and deaths in the state, behind only Los Angeles County.

The county on Friday also reported that a total of 452 coronavirus patients are currently hospitalized, 23 less than the day before. Of those, 153 are in intensive care units –– 14 less than Thursday.

More than half the county's COVID-19 cases are among people under age 40. The cases are broken down by age as follows, according to health officials:

  • 599 cases (1.8%) are among people ages 0 to 4
  • 2,457 cases (7%) are among people ages 5 to 17
  • 15,673 cases (43%) are among people ages 18 to 39
  • 12,991 cases (37.5%) are among people ages 40 to 64
  • 2,817 cases (7.9%) are among people ages 65 to 79
  • 1,041 cases (2.8%) are among people 80 years or older

The county reported to have conducted 2,863 tests in the past 24 hours. Another 134 patients have recovered, bringing the total of recovered patients to 13,050.

Coachella Valley: Cases so far

Officials reported 90 new cases and two deaths in the Coachella Valley's nine cities since Thursday. Here's the city and community breakdown, with the numbers in parentheses showing increases over the past day:

  • Cathedral City: 1,338 cases (+24) and 21 deaths (+1)
  • Coachella: 1,920 cases (+11) and 16 deaths
  • Desert Hot Springs: 724 cases (+17) and 12 deaths (+1) 
  • Indian Wells: 34 cases and 1 death
  • Indio: 2,589 cases (+18) and 56 deaths
  • La Quinta: 580 cases (+2) and 15 deaths
  • Palm Desert: 774 cases (+1) and 40 deaths
  • Palm Springs: 749 cases (+15) and 25 deaths
  • Rancho Mirage: 187 cases (+2) and 14 deaths
  • Unincorporated communities: Bermuda Dunes: 93 cases (+1) and 3 deaths; Desert Edge: 29 cases and 2 deaths; Desert Palms: 35 cases and 2 deaths; Garnet: 151 cases (+3) and 0 deaths; Mecca: 306 cases (+4) and 7 deaths; North Shore: 100 cases (+1) and 1 death; Oasis: 238 cases (+1) and 2 deaths; Sky Valley: 29 cases (+1) and 0 deaths; Thermal: 126 cases (+1) and 0 deaths; Thousand Palms: 143 cases (+1) and 0 deaths; Vista Santa Rosa: 63 cases and 1 death
  • State of California: 493,588 (+10,197) cases and 9,005 deaths (+96), according to data released Friday.
